Sky Broadband Give Then Take Away

If like me you are a Sky Broadband customer you should thank the guys and girls over a Bitter Wallet. In their never ending quest to highlight all that is wrong with the world they have discovered that Sky are planing to make major changes to their service offering and guess what, they are not giving us more.
Did you know, for example, that Sky is the only broadband provider that doesn’t throttle its service at peak times?
“…however you use the internet, you can be sure that in Sky network areas, we don’t slow our broadband speed down at peak times – unlike other providers.”
Good times, well no actually. Below is from Sky’s own user policy:
“To ensure we provide a sustainable quality broadband service to our customers, we continuously monitor and efficiently manage the Sky Network as a whole. To do this, during peak times (from 5pm to 12am each day), we may slow down the speed that all Sky Broadband Connect customers can get on certain applications which we consider use up a lot of bandwidth…”
“We will monitor your Sky Broadband usage during peak times from 5pm to 12am each day. This is when the majority of customers use the network and when speeds could be affected by the excessive usage of a minority. If we consider that your usage is excessive during peak times we may slow down your connection for the rest of the day so that it has less affect on others.”
Bad times.
By saying your customers can do whatever they want and you’ll never throttle their service, what you really mean you will throttle the service if you don’t like what they’re doing. Clear as mud. Sky are also telling customers that they can expect to be automatically upgraded to a more expensive tariff if they exceed their broadband allowance more than once in six months. Of course you can always drop back down to the lower tariff if you behave yourself, but it might cost you:
“We will charge you fair and reasonable costs for your usage (and any reasonable administration costs) in excess of your Usage Cap.
Keep a very beady eye on the usage tool people www.sky.com/usagetool.

Well said? Great information, keep up the great work!
Nice writing style. I look forward to reading more in the future.
To all those who may or may not be aware of SKY using a USAGE TOOL which monitors your use of the Internet.
I would suggest you download a free MONITOR which will keep an exact check on what you are really using. I have already proved that the stats that they seem to be acquiring bare no resemblance to what you actually use.
This is some of what happens.
1 The SKY router is constantly sending bit rate between itself and the Sky server using up your monthly allowance without being on the internet.
I have now stopped this happening
2. If you use SKY as your home page it will again send bit rate even when you open an existing email ATTACHEMENT
Suggest you choose a different HOME PAGE.
3. In the last instance of a family member the SKY USAGE TOOL was saying he has used 11GB in the last month, and in two days he had used some 1.55gb, GUESS WHAT HE IS NOT ON LINE AS HE CANNOT GET CONNECTED and this has been the case all over Christmas 2009.
4.In my particular case SKY Usage tool has me as using 1/2gb in two days I have not been online MY OWN ON BOARD COMPUTER MONITOR which monitors all the traffic going in and out of the SKY router shows I HAVE USED 50mb as of this moment 28 Dec 2009.
I think you will guess from these brief stats SKY IS MANIPULATING STATS to enable them to push you up to another BROADBAND package until they eventually get most paying for the UNLIMITED PACKAGE.
TIME TO SPREAD THE WORD AND FIGHT BACK, move to another provider and if you are troubled by cancelling the SKY TV Package.
SKY have to provide access to FREESAT using the SKY BOXES this can be obtained with out paying for a new BOX just get the appropriate card from SKY for one off payment of £20 phone 08448244400.
Its time SKY WAS BROUGHT BACK DOWN TO EARTH they may then respect the customers who pay their wages.
