Retailers Are Missing A Trick With Voucher Codes

28 October 2009 No Comment

piggyAs a retailer when is the best time to issues a voucher code? Friday so you see an uplift in sales over the weekend, well that is one theory. However those nice chaps over at Vouchercodes.com have been kind enough to carry out research into shoppers patterns online and have concluded that Monday is the day of the week when people are most interacting with the internet and are most likely to buy. On top of that they have even pinpointed 9:16pm as the best time. According to the research VoucherCodes.com can experience an increase of 45% more traffic on Monday than they can on Friday.

“Online shoppers like to make their purchases at the start of the week,” says James Carter, founder and managing director of VoucherCodes.com. “Retailers that continue to hold on to voucher offers until Friday afternoons are missing out on the bulk of online shoppers, who avoid the internet during the weekend in favour of other leisure activities.”

“The bulk of online shoppers will complete transactions during the week,” he added. “Holding on to voucher codes means retailers have the potential to lose 45% of all possible sales due to a drop in traffic. It’s a bit like offering a great discount when the high street is closed!”

I see what is going on here. Arrive at work 8:58, turn on machine and make tea, sit down at desk 9.10, check emails 9:15, search online for an ASOS voucher code 9:16-5:30. I am just so busy these days.
